The importance of being open and transparent – something I realized via dialogues with Nidec employees across the globe
Since last year, as part of our corporate cultural reform, I have been frequently visiting the Nidec Group’s business bases for dialogues with employees in and outside Japan.
By visiting them onsite and talking to them online, I have been listening to Nidec employees’ questions and complaints from their day-to-day operations, and concerns and anxiety over Nidec’s current situation, among other issues. During this process, I once again realized the importance of being open and transparent – something I have been speaking of for a while.
It may have been difficult to express your thoughts in the top-down decision-making structure; however, for Nidec to be reborn as a better company, it is essential for us to gather courage and share with each other our issues, weaknesses, and problems in the workplace.
Let’s all practice this process of speaking to others about your concerns and problems to help each other.
Here’s my request to all of you: Please read the entire Improvement Plan that we submitted to the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The Plan is a result of the comprehensive efforts by the members of the Nidec Corporate Reform Committee and others, who spent a tremendous amount of time and incorporated a wide variety of voices of Nidec Group companies and others. The Plan clearly explains what we need to change and where we should be headed to as a company.
Though it may take time for the plan to be accepted in the entire workplace, let’s take steps in the right direction.
I will continue to speak with my Nidec Group colleagues around the world. Let’s make an open and transparent Nidec.
